Sodium Oxide is a base

Na2O + H2O --> 2NaOH

MgO

Magnesium Oxide is a base

MgO + H2O --> Mg(OH)2

Al2O3

Aluminium Oxide is amphoteric (can act as acid or a base)

As a base: Al2O3 + 6HCl --> 2AlCl3 + 2H2O
As an acid: Al2O3 + 6NaOH + 3H2O --> 2Na3Al(OH)6

SiO2

Silicon Dioxide is acidic

SiO2 + 2NaOH --> 2Na2SiO3 + H2O

Acidic

P4O10 + 6H2O --> 4H3PO4

SO2

Acidic

SO2 + H2O --> H2SO3

SO3 + H2O --> H2SO4
